Hindsight- looking back at past events, without getting stuck in the past.
Last months quote was, "Don't allow the pains of the past to poison your future. Where you are going is more important then where you've been." People who start dealing in the past, get stuck in the past. They think in the past, dwell in the past and live in the past. You must get past the past.
There is a reason why your car has a big windshield and a small rearview mirror. Keep your eyes on where you're going and occasionally check out where you've been. Otherwise you are going to crash!
"The past is supposed to be a place of reference, not a place of residence."

Do you have a Vision?
Do you need eyesight, to visualize your goal?
Answer: NO.
"Your biggest problem maybe your greatest possibility."
Stevie Wonder was born blind, but had a vision to become great. Helen Keller was born blind and deaf. Helen was the first blind and deaf student, to graduate college and went on to be a world famous speaker and author. Ray Charles started to loose his sight at the age of five and is now an American Icon.
He found an old piece of a guitar and taught himself how to play. He practiced day and night and sometimes until his fingers bled. Today he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. The song "Feliz Navidad", was, and still is a huge hit. The singer of that song is Jose Feliciano and was born in Puerto Rico. If you think that is impressive try this: His neighbors' suggested that he get a cup and beg for money, because Jose was born poor and blind.
What are you waiting for? Anything you want is there for you. All you have to do is reach out and take it.
"After you visualize the action, you must actualize the vision."

What are you looking for?
Perspective- how you view things; the way life is scene through your eyes
If you look at the desert, you will see the power of perspective.
When the vulture flies though the desert it focuses all its energy on death. The vulture looks for death and decay and isn't able to focus on anything else. The hummingbird also flies through the desert and focuses all its energy on life. It looks for flowers, plants and other vegetation that it can use to sustain life.
What you look for you shall find. Are you looking for the positive in all aspects of your life?
Do you get upset because roses have thorns or do you rejoice because thorn bushes have roses?

Are You Old?
Dedicated to all the Men and Women serving in the armed forces.
I'll bet, I can tell how old you are, by just looking at the people you hang out with. Do your friends say, "Oh I don't do that anymore. Maybe if I was younger." The friends that you surround yourself with, is the person that you have become. Do these people say "Well that's just who I am." These people are old. When you Choose to stay young, it is a sign that you are still capable of growth. When you stop growing as a person, you stop living.
The Medical Minnesota Association defines "old" as a person who:
feels as they have learned all there is to learn,
feels that tomorrow holds no promise,
would rather talk than listen,
longs for the "good old days".
Children live with Faith, Self-Confidence and Hope. Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, puts many years onto our life.
Some people are alive but aren't really living.
"Nobody grows old by living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their desires."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

An Interview with God
I dreamed I had an interview with God.
I asked “What surprises you most about humankind?”
God answered...“That they get bored with childhood, they rush to grow up, and then long to be children again.”
“That they lose their health to make money...and then lose their money to restore their health.”
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Only 2 types of People in this world
Reactive and Proactive
Everyday you have 100's of opportunities to choose whether to be reactive or proactive.
When something in your life happens that you don't agree with, and is out of your control, do you whine, complain and make excuses? If you want to live in the past, continue to talk about it. But if you want a better future, then we need to live in the "NOW WHAT?"
Reactive-blaming others; those who have things happen to them.
Proactive- taking responsibility for their own life, those who make it happen
Reactive
>Easily offended
>Say things they later regret
>Change only when they have to
You may choose to respond however you want to, but remember that your response is a CHOICE.
Proactive
>Think then Act
>Bounce Back
>Find a way to make it happen
"If you can't control your reactions, then you will always work for someone who can."

Victor vs Victim continued
You are only in control of 3 things:
Effort
Attitude
Response
You are not in control of anything else. EAR, should be the main focus when your friend or child gets upset. Whenever we point the finger at someone else for causing our child or friend to feel sad or angry, then we are teaching them to allow others to be responsible for how they feel = Victim. When we grow up and get mad at someone, we want them to apologize to us, to make us feel better = Victim. Our lives should not depend on someone else’s apology. Sometimes we may try to manipulate someone, by blowing them off or ignoring them, to let them know that we are mad at them, so they can figure out how to make “us” feel better = Victim.
It’s not about them, it’s about us allowing others to have control over our emotions. We should teach others to feel good about who they are regardless of what anyone else says = Victor. Once we start taking responsibility for our own feelings and stop blaming others for how we feel, we can then take a gigantic step forward on our quest for success = Victor.
Take life seriously without taking anything personally.
”Don’t take life too seriously, because you will never get out alive.”

Victors vs. Victims
Dedicated to one of the most Inspiring people in my life, My Brother Dino.
Victims – when someone does us wrong, we point the finger at how they made us feel.
Victors – only take responsibility for how we feel and do not allow others to hinder our happiness; our own thoughts determine our happiness.
When is there an opportunity to learn how to deal with adversity?
Answer: Anytime a child or a friend is upset.
There are some parents and friends who want to castigate a person who hurts their child or friend = teaches them how to be a Victim. Instead of being comforting, and teaching them how to deal with their feelings appropriately, without losing control and blaming others = teaches them how to be a Victor.
Adversity is opportunity: learning how to deal with the situations appropriately. My brother encourages me to take responsibility for how I feel. Dino does not speak of what others have done wrong, he enlightens me on how to handle it.
As per Dr. Gilbert, “The problem isn’t the problem, but how you handle the problem is.”
How to get stuck right where you are?
Answer: Blame others for how you feel.

How to inspire others...
In life many people ask, “What is wrong with me? Why do I feel this way?“
Explain to them that it is ok to feel that way, but the Great news is: you don’t have to act the way you feel. So we can "Act As If."
Also use the 3 F’s by empathizing with them
Say to them:
I know how you feel.
I used to feel the same way.
But let me tell you what I found.
Story:
1st explain Act As If
2nd use the 3 F’s
3rd tell a story that pertains to their situation of someone who struggled just like they did, but made it through the adversity.
There are many great inspiring stories. Just google inspiring stories or get this book “Winning 101” by Van Couch (Given to me by the Kindhearted and Thoughtful Shannon Ashe).
Why are Grandpa’s so insightful? Because we love their stories.
Parents have a huge advantage because children love bed time stories. When children begin to struggle with the adversities in their lives, this is a perfect opportunity to change the way your child thinks and they will start changing how they feel. Right before you go to bed is the best time for a great story because it will stay in their brain longer.
“Once you show them how much you care, they’ll be willing to listen to how much you know.”

We are all Motivational Speakers
Have you ever given someone advice and they didn’t take your advice? How did that make you feel? When you give advice, is it inspiring or commanding? Does it lift them up or pull them down?
In order to do anything in this world, we must be motivated to do it. That is why, if you are a parent, friend, teacher, counselor, social worker, etc… whenever you are helping someone in any aspect of your life you are a
motivational speaker: which is getting your point across as clear as possible in a way, so when you leave that person, they will be motivated to Go All Out in their quest for success, no matter the circumstances.
So ask yourself, if we just want the best for them, then why not inspire Them!
"People don’t care how much you know until you show them how much you care."

Are you a leader or a boss?
"If you are leading, and find out that no one is behind you, then you are just going for a walk."
Gordon Selfridge built one of the worlds largest department stores in London. He said there are 2 types of executives, A boss and a Leader:
The boss drives his men
The leader coaches them
The boss inspires fear
The leader inspires enthusiasm
The boss says "I"
The leader "We"
The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown
The leader fixes the breakdown
The boss knows how it is done
The leader shows how
The boss says "Go"
The leader says "Let’s Go"
"A leader’s job is to put someone else in a position where they can be successful."

Being Happy with who we are
Remember the women named "She" and that blonde who turned out to be kind to "She". If we are unhappy with who someone else is, maybe it's because we might be unhappy with who we are. If you are secure in yourself and happy with who you are, then it becomes easy to accept others for who they are. Isn't not liking someone really saying I will not accept who I think you are.
The blonde girls' name from yesterdays story is "Shawn", which means "God's gracious gift."
Gifts come in all various shapes and sizes.
"How many times does God have to bring you a gift before you start to see it."

Judging others
Dedicated to a Joyful Kindhearted person- Kerrin Haganey
A Women Named "She"
1st Part of Story:
No matter how much She worked out at the gym, She couldn't loose the weight fast enough. As She looked across the workout room, there was this cute blonde with her petite body. You name it and the blonde did it: pull ups, push ups, and constant cardio. training. Well She thought She would never forget the day when that cute blonde moved out of the way, when there paths had crossed with this smirk on her face as if to say, "Keep your fat to yourself," as if it were contagious.
Do we all create this image of who we think someone is without understanding who they really are.
"Understand before being Understood"
2nd Part of Story:
She went to the gym for the next few weeks scoffing at that blonde doing her pull ups, as her pony tail even seemed to have an attitude, as it swayed back and fourth. The one day when She wasn't feeling well, it just added to her frustration, after seeing that little blonde prissy with the perfect body doing her regular workout. At this point the blonde walked over and said to her, "I just want you to know that I admire your hard workouts and you are an inspiration to me." This women was left with her eyes popped and her jaw dropped.
"Like people first. Ask questions later"

Why don’t you pause?
"Well I'm just opinionated. Well that's how I deal with it. Well I can't help it, those things make me mad."
When will we start taking responsibility for our own Emotional Reactions (EQ). Your reaction to something is a choice. You choose to react that way. This stems from years of practicing these emotional reactions. We react without thinking. Next time a stressful situation arises, use a pause. Instead of Action then Reaction; Action + Pause then Reaction. Depending on how far you go in life will depend on how you control your Emotional Reactions (EQ).
"That is how you choose to live and until you realize that, then that is how you will continue to live."

The problem isn't the problem.
When you stop learning you stop living. Are you stressed, overworked, having trouble dealing with the everyday challenges of life? Have you encountered the same problems over and over again in different situations? It's not what's happening to you that is stressing you out, it's how you are handling it.
"God keeps giving us the same lessons until we learn it."
~ Noelle Clay
Often a young student would walk by the home of a well respected professor in the community. The student noticed that at many different times of the day he walked by, the professor would be reading books in his study. One day the student had an opportunity to speak to the professor and asked, "Doctor, What keeps you studying? You are top in your field. You've spoke at many universities and you never seem to stop learning." The professor replied, "Son, I would rather have my students drink from a running stream than from a stagnant pool."
If we continue to swim in the stagnant pool, we will continue to handle situations the same way and we will get the same results. With a running stream, comes new information on how to handle adversity.
"The problem isn’t the problem, how you handle the problem is."

Are you a gloater?
When we do something nice for someone, do we tell others how nice we were, or do we stay humble about it. When we talk of how much good we’ve done for others, aren’t we really saying , "Hey look how great I am." Sometimes if we need to talk great about ourselves, it might be because no one else is. No one wants to give credit to someone who already credits themselves.
Are we doing things for others because we want them to see how great we are, or are we doing it because of how great they are?
A father lived with his son on a farm and it was time to collect some grains. As the boy looked out at the harvest, he said to his dad, “Look at how those wheat heads hold themselves up so proudly. They must be filled with the most grains.” “No my son” the father said, as he crushed those wheat heads that stood proudly, “they only contain a few poor shriveled grains. The ones that bow there heads humbly, are the ones filled with the large golden kernels of wheat.
“The true walk of life is the walk of humility.”

How to get where you want to be?
Dedicated to the creative Mr. Reis and
Alexander Graham Bell
How is your minute adjustments going?
Now that you’ve been thinking about it, it’s time to put those thoughts into action. A minute adjustment in your life will actually enhance your life.
Think it, create it and now act it.
Didn’t Alexander Graham Bell invent the telephone? The answer is No. Mr. Reis invented the telephone, but it only carried whistling and humming sounds. Many years later Alexander Graham Bell discovered Reis’ error. Alexander adjusted one small screw, that was off by one-thousandth of an inch. After that minute adjustment, Alexander was able to transmit speech loud and clear. That minute adjustment has forever changed the way we communicate.
“You're willingness to make adjustments in life, will determine how eager you are to be successful.”

Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Just make a minute adjustment.
Can you make a minute adjustment to your life. Maybe it's saving just a $1 a day. Or just reading that book 5 minutes a day. Or exercising just 10 minutes a day. Or just eating a piece of fruit once a day.
A man was recovering from a heart attack. He said, “Doc, what do I have to do to become a healthy eater? The doctor informed him, “Just eat 1 orange a day.” The man said ,“That’s it”. Doctor said “Trust me, that’s all you need to do.” Well, the man wasn't to happy with the Doctor's advice. He thought, “How could I be healthier by just eating an orange a day?” After 2 weeks of pondering the Doctor's advice, he went to the supermarket and bought his oranges. He then noticed that he was in the fruit section, so he started buying other fruits. After 1 month he changed his diet and became a healthy eater all because he just made a minute adjustment in his life. All he wanted was an orange.
“Take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when the gave up."

Are you using all your strengths in life?
The Scout Troop Leader was leading his scouts through the forest. While hiking through the forest they came across a tree that had landed on the trail. The Scout Troop Leader struggled to move it.
A scout asked, "Are you using all your strength?"
The Leader replied in exasperation, "Yes."
The Scout replied, "I don't think so. You haven't asked us to help you."
Are you using all your resources in life? We are all here to help each other. Ask yourself how many times a day you have offered to help someone in need.
"Life isn't a sprint, it's a marathon and requires a team."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Worth the struggle!
Did you struggle today?
Did you know that Geese fly in a "V" formation? This is so they can fly higher and faster. It allows all the geese to face adversity and build strength. They all work together. The lead goose has the hardest job because it takes the brunt of the headwinds. The last goose has the easiest position. However, the geese rotate around and take turns at all the different positions, so they can all face adversity by being the lead goose.
Small challenges create small muscles, while big challenges create big muscles.
We all need challenges in order to grow.
"Adversity challenges and pushes us to accelerate the development of our greatest potential."
~Art Mortell

The Mountain of Adversity
How do you expect to get anywhere in life without going through the struggle to get there?
3 Levels of Adversity (Mountain)
Quitters- Abandon the climb. "It's too hard. Look how high it is."
Campers- Start a difficult task and don't finish. They start climbing up the mountain and as it gets difficult they just camp out. This becomes their home. Living in mediocrity.
Climbers- Keep moving in spite of obstacles. Are willing to face adversity and keep climbing. Climbers grow from their challenges and realize that adversity builds Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
Campers see change as a problem and Climbers see change as an opportunity.
"Success is not a destination; it is a journey." ~Willie Jolley

How to Kick FFUD Out?
FFUD
Fear
Frustration
Uncertainty
Doubt
Gotta have Faith!
Faith means to have Confidence and Trust in something.
Faith sees the invisible,
Believes the incredible and
Receives the impossible.
(Given to me by The Sweet Shannon Ashe)
"Faith will mold and make you. FFUD will bust and break you"
FFUD~ Ed Agresta

Is IQ overrated as a contributor toward success?
Are you a genius?
Well Ted Kacynski is. His IQ is off the charts. However he lacked social skills and couldn't handle the pressures of life and eventually became the "Unabomber".
See, our IQ will take us places, but how long we last there will depend on how high our EQ and AQ are.
The key ingredients to success!
What is your EQ? That's right, your Emotional Intelligence- ability to work and empathize with others, control impulses and have high self esteem. People with a high Emotional Intelligence tend to excel in life, relationships, jobs, school and life's everyday challenges. IQ will help you get the job, but your Emotional Intelligence (EQ) will help you excel in it.
Now your determination of success is AQ- Which is how you handle Adversity. Building up your Emotional Intelligence, will depend on how you handle your Adversities = how successful you are.
"When Adversity jumps in the way of success, how well you handle it will determine if you're standing on top of the mountain or looking up from the bottom."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Discover your "why."
Accomplish your Goals!
Stop thinking about it and start doing it. If we spent more time doing and less time thinking about it, imagine all the goals we would've achieved.
Randy was in desperate need of losing weight. No matter what the doctors told him, he still did not lose weight, until a tragedy struck his family. Randy's young daughter was going to die unless she received a kidney. Randy gave up his kidney, but the doctors refused it because he was too overweight. Randy then did the unthinkable. He lost 100 lbs. in 8 months and saved his daughter's life. Randy said, "It was easy because I had a tremendous incentive to save my daughter's life."
~Oprah Winfrey Show
"If you have a big enough "why," you'll always discover the "how."

What do you want?
Do you spend most of the day thinking about all the things you want in life?
"Money won't make you happy. But everyone wants to find out for themselves."

"Why should God give us anymore if we don't appreciate what we already have."

What are you doing with your shots in life?
Dedicated to a basketball athlete, who is one of the most Composed players and person that I know, Bobbi Aker.
The Greatest Hockey Player of all time once said, "The only shot you miss is the one you don't take" ~ Wayne Gretzky
Being afraid to make a mistake is the worst mistake, you can make.
Life is full of shot opportunities. Sometimes you make 'em and sometimes you miss 'em. If you miss,
SO WHAT! Take Another Shot.
"While those hesitate because they feel inferior, others are busy making mistakes and becoming superior."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Whose life will you touch today?
Dedicated to a person who brings energy and enlightenment when she walks into a room, Lorraine Ferro.
"You are fulfilling a life exactly as you are and exactly as you are needed because you're willing and open to follow your heart! That is so rare, and with your help, those qualities will be much more visible in many more people, because your path includes lighting up the whole world!"
~ written to someone in a birthday card
The world needs us and it is our job to find out HOW?
"Your gift is wrapped in the box of desire."

Has someone told you NO?
When someone tells you NO, it's only temporary, until you find a way to get them to say yes. Find your way around your circumstances. NO should push you where you need to go.
This woman divorced her husband, after spending years of being physically abused. This singer tried to get a record contract, but was told NO by numerous companies because she was washed up. But if you want something bad enough, then the word NO is only a small bump in the road. So she went to Europe and recorded a song called "Let's Stay Together". She then came back to America and recorded an album called "What's Love got to do with it". She is now one of the all time highest grossing concert artists of all time.
-Tina Turner

Do you get frozen by the fear of failure?
Dedicated to a Professor whose motivational style, has touched many students at Montclair State University, Lisa Sargese.
understand that the brain resists change; takes time to get your system to effectively change for the better
Positive Failing
1) Results may not come as fast as you would like= SO WHAT
2) Keep putting in the effort until "Breakdowns become Breakthroughs"
3) How do you know you're pushing yourself hard enough? When you are making mistakes
4) Don't stop until successes outnumbers mistakes
"Some people throw a chlorine tablet in a swamp and expect a swimming pool to appear."
~Lisa Sargese
"When you find the energy for total nonstop effort, by giving your best no matter what the circumstances are, then you are acting as if it were impossible to fail."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures, are those people who didn't realize, how close they were to success when they gave up"

Get in the wheel barrow!
A tight rope walker walked across the Niagara Falls while thousands of fans looked on. After jumping and jogging across the rope, he did something even more amazing that would stun the crowd. He put a wheel barrow on the rope and put his dog in it. Then his son and eventually his wife. He took all of them across to the other side and back. While signing autographs, he was approached by an ecstatic fan. The fan asked "can you go across there one more time so I can get a picture (as the wind started to pick up)." The tight rope walker asked him, "Do you believe that I can walk across with the wind blowing?" The fan replied, "There is no doubt in mind that you can." The tight rope walker then said, "O.k. then get in the wheel barrow," as the fan then walked away.
Are we walking with a belief system that has not been tested.
"Once you conceive it in your mind, you must believe it in your heart."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures, are those people who didn't realize, how close they were to success when they gave up."

Do others dictate your mood?
Isn't it nice to receive great compliments? Doesn't it make you feel great about who you are? But are we constantly relying on others to lift our spirits? If so then are we allowing others to pull us down? We might be giving power over our emotions to others, putting us on this wild roller coaster ride of emotions. - Compliments bring us up and insults brings us down -
It is time that we start taking charge of our lives.
How?
Don't allow others' poor character to infect your own.
"I am already happy with who I am and there is nothing anyone can do to change that."
Quote of the month: "Most of life's failures are those people who didn't realize how close they were to success when they gave up."
