A special Hello to the Montclair College Student, who stepped out of her comfort zone and inspired her classmates, Shannon Hartman.
He was an inspiring speaker who touched the lives of many. On March 4 1993 he delivered what some would say, as one of the greatest speeches of all time, after being awarded the inaugural Arthur Ashe Courage and Humanitarian Award at the first annual ESPY Awards. Here is a brief summary of that speech:
People say how do you get through life each day. To me there are 3 things we should all do each day. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week your going to have something special.
I just got one last thing, I urge all of you, to enjoy your life, the precious moments you have. To spend each day with some laughter and some thought, to get you're emotions going. To be enthusiastic everyday and as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "Nothing great could ever be accomplished without enthusiasm"-- to keep your dreams alive in spite of problems whatever you have. The ability to work hard for your dreams to come true, to become a reality.
What I would like to do now is spend whatever time I have left and to give some hope to others.
I gotta go but I got one last thing to say. Cancer can take away all my physical ability. It cannot touch my mind; it cannot touch my heart; and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.
I thank you and God bless you all.

Jimmy V. died 4 months later.
Colleges across the country raise money for the Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer. The motto is
"Don't give up. Don't ever Give up"
"The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be."
~Jimmy Valvano
Quote of the month: "A true friend is someone who thinks they are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked." ~Bernard Meltzer
