Are You a Garbage Collector?

Did you have an overreaction? Do you know why? Maybe because you are part of the garbage truck family.
While riding in a taxi in the right lane, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital." This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they look for a place to dump it. If you let them they'll dump it on you.

Motivation Starter Kit

How many of you want to have more success, more money, more happiness?

The great athletes, writers, presidents, teachers, world changers all have the same thing in common. They were all MOTIVATED.

As a great motivational speaker Zig Ziglar was leaving his seminar someone yelled out, "Hey Zig! Motivation doesn't work!" Zig responded, "Neither does bathing. That is why I recommend it daily."

It starts every morning that we wake up. How many of you wake up too motivated for life? What do you do every morning to motivate you to face the days challenges? Ask yourself, "Do I want better." If you read this blog your answer is YES!

Behavior vs Potential

Do we have commitment based conversations? That is when we speak to people about what they can do.

Or do we have behavior based conversations? We constantly point out what they didn't do and should do and ignore what they are capable of.

Why do we judge others by their actions but then judge ourselves by what we can become?

Whenever we point at someone else there are 3 fingers pointing back at us. Don't be a fault finder, be a hope finder. We have enough bitter people in this world. After people interact with you, do you leave them feeling bitter or better?

A great teacher once said, "My only goal is to be a positive interruption to a downward spiral." ~Ed Agresta

Step It Up!

The results that we want are ultimately a matter of our desire. In order to have amazing tomorrows we must never give up on ourselves today.

"Remember this your life time through,
tomorrow there will be more to do.
Failure waits for all who stay,
with some success made yesterday.
Tomorrow you must try once more,
and even harder than before." ~John Wooden

The 5 Words That Destroy Success

"I don't feel like it."

Are you committed to your commitment? Or, are you committed to your feelings? Everyday there is a war going on inside us between our commitment and our feelings. Which one wins?

Do not allow your feelings to get in the way of your commitment. Successful people know the secret. Feel is not real. Change your feelings by changing your actions. Most people wait for their circumstances to change. NOT YOU! Take action!

Once you put your body in motion, your emotions will follow.

"The pain is temporary but the pride is forever."

Quote of the month: "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard."

Happiness? But How?

A niece speaks to her aunt, who always seems to be bitter about life. This aunt has allowed many people to steal her joy day after day and year after year.

"I noticed that when you don't feel good you pick on me. And when you pick on me we fight. I am not interested in fighting. I cannot fulfill the unhappiness that you have inside you." The aunt had no response.

It is not the event, the cars, the money, the tests, other people, etc... that determines your happiness.

Happiness is not from the outside in, it is from the inside out.

"Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means that you look beyond the imperfections." ~Unknown

Well That's How I Feel

"Why would you say that! You hurt my feelings." How much of our life is spent allowing others to have the remote control to our emotions?

Our feelings are not determined by what others have said. Our feelings are a result of all we have chose to focus on. Stop reliving hurtful moments. Some people choose to focus on what we don't want to see repeated.

"You choose your thoughts, your thoughts don't choose you."

I Am The Greatest

A special hello to a great motivational speaker, The Cuban Guy.
"You can't do that. You're not smart enough. You'll never finish school. You're not good enough." Lies, lies, lies. Even though we know it is a lie, the problem is, the more we hear it, the more we believe it.

"What you constantly say; what you constantly hear; you will eventually believe." ~Mano Watsa

"I am the greatest!" Throughout his whole career Muhammad Ali could be heard telling everyone how great he was. The question is who was he trying to convince? His mother? His fans? His friends? NO! HE WAS CONVINCING HIMSELF.

"You are not what people call you. You are what you answer to."

To this day Muhammad Ali was The Greatest boxer of all time.

Let's Get Even

"I am going to make it my life's goal to GET EVEN..."

The Great Football Coach from Notre Dame, Lou Holtz, was heard preaching this quote during one of his seminars.

How many people do we try to get even with, after they have hurt us? Remember, a grudge is a heavy thing to carry. Instead of focusing on what people have done against us, why don't we focus on those who have done for us?

You may be surprised when you read the full quote.

"I am going to make it my life's goal to GET EVEN with EVERYONE who has done nice things for me." ~Lou Holtz

Do You Have Iceberg Beliefs?

"Your Feelings are a result of your thinking." ~Dr. Reivich

Do you blow situations out of proportion?
Do you overreact?
Do you truly believe that you don't have any control over your emotional reactions?

If you answered yes to the above questions then you may have iceberg beliefs. "Iceberg beliefs are thoughts that float beneath the surface of your consciousness: powerful forces that can significantly undermine your resilience and cause you to overreact to a particular situation." ~Karen Salmansohn

Typical iceberg beliefs:
1. Things should always be fair.
2. I can't help it. This is who I am.
3. Revenge is ok.
4. You got me mad.
5. I can't.
Are these reasons for our negative reactions, or have our iceberg beliefs become built in excuses?

"You choose how you react. Your reactions don't choose you."

Don't Do It

Our prayers are with a very special basketball player, Niki Popyer.
Today you will have many opportunities to do this one thing. Just say no. No matter how difficult it might seem, you do not have to do it. What is it? COMPLAIN.

Let Us Complain

Let us complain about our circumstances and the outcomes of all our situations that we wish were different.

Sound crazy? But many people get excuses instead of results.

You Gravitate To What You Tolerate

"The problem isn't the problem. How you handle the problem may be the problem."
Ever notice that sometimes people keep running into the same problems? Maybe because they stopped searching for the solution.

"I don't like them." Is that true? Or maybe they are just extremely frustrated because you do not know how to fix the problem that this person keeps causing you and all you can say is, "I don't like them." That is called being reactive. It is time to be Proactive!

If you find yourself being treated in a way you resent or that turns you into a victim, ask yourself this question: "What have I done to teach this person that this behavior is something that I am willing to tolerate?" ~Wayne Dyer

NO LIMITS!

Limited thinking creates limited talent.

"In order to grow, we have to let go." ~Ed Agresta

Some people argue for their limitations and all they get are more limits. Let's put a limit on your limitations! Don't set your limits. Stretch your limits. "In order to have more than you've got, you have to become more than you are."

Your Choices Will Be Your Results

"If you are not yet who you want to be, this is a great opportunity for you to get there."
Every morning that we awake, we have a choice. Are we choosing to take a step closer to: letting go of the past, getting out of our comfort zone, building self confidence? Or, are we choosing to base who we want to be on hope? Are we just hoping to get there?

"Don't get too comfortable with who you are at any given time... you may miss the opportunity to become who you really want to be." ~Jon Bon Jovi

Make The Most Important Thing The Most Important Thing

Do you read magazines? What is your favorite television show? What is your favorite sport team? How much time of your life is spent being emotionally involved with something that has nothing to do with your future. "Your focus is your future." Are you focused on your future?

The Pillow Test

The definition of commitment is, "Keeping your word after the feeling has past."

Can you do sit-ups or crunches or stretch or push-ups or jog for just five minutes a day. Don't think about not having an hour a day for what you can't do, think about the little time you can fit into your day for what you can do.

That is 35 minutes of exercise a week. For some of you it is 35 times more than what you are doing now.

Every night when you go to bed and your head hits that pillow you can look back on the days events and either say, "I'm glad I did." Or, "I wish I had."
What will you say tonight?

"If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got."

Quote of the month: "When you reach out, chances are someone will reach back." ~Cheryl Richardson

Are You Still Getting Ready?

Ready, Aim... Did you forget the last part? Many people keep refocusing. They put a "Ready" after aim, so their whole day is, "Ready, Aim, Ready."

Sound strange? Think of it this way. The definition for procrastination is getting ready to get ready.

Ready, Aim FIRE! Don't refocus until after you miss. Take a chance and fire, you'll never know how close you are until you miss.

"The only shot we miss is the one we don't take." ~Wayne Gretzky

Have Hope. Don't Live in Hope.

"It is the start that stops most people." ~Dr. Rob Gilbert

"I hope I get into better shape. I hope my life changes around. I hope I have less stress. I hope I do better in school."

Most people spend their life living in hope, which is all the WANTS that they are not actively going after. You can have whatever you want. But first we have to give some of it away.

"We get the most when we give the most." ~Unknown

What Are You Going Through? Wrong Question!

That is not the question we should be asking ourselves. The question is, "What are you going to."

"Obstacles are the things we see when we take our eyes off our goals." ~Zig Ziglar
What are you focused on? Are you focused on what you are going through? Or are you focused on, what you are going to?

Life is Like a Bucket of Golf Balls

Special Happy Birthday to a responsible young man, Paul Cicalo.
At first you start hitting away carelessly. Each shot does not mean that much to you because so many shots still remain. Then there are just a few golf balls left. Only a few shots remain. You start to pay better attention. You want to crush these golf balls as far as you can because you know you can change your future at this very moment by how you approach the present. Then you get down to your last shot.

We must continue shooting everyday as though this is our last shot. You only get so many shots in life. What are you doing with yours today?

"If you are only guaranteed today, why worry about tomorrow?"

Is it to live your LIFE? Or is it because you have things to do?

LIVE IT BEFORE YOU LEAVE IT

Dedicated to a man who is loved by many, Vito Spino.

"It's do or die. It's now or never. There is no tomorrow."
Why don't some people live the life that they want?

Why aren't some people totally into their own life?
You don't have to be in the celebrity world to live a celebrity life.
You are important to many people. The sad thing is most people don't realize it until it is too late. Everyday you have an opportunity to add value to others. Today is your day.

Unless you know something that I don't know, THIS IS IT! This is YOUR OSCARS, YOUR SUPERBOWL, YOUR WORLD SERIES. If you live to be 72 years old enjoy EVERY SINGLE DAY of those 27,000 days. Yes it is true. The average person only lives between 27,000 and 28,000 days.
Everyday you have an opportunity to make a memory. What memories are you making for the people around you?

"Don't count the days. Make the days count." ~Ed Agresta

Happiness Not Included!

It is sad to say but some people rely on their circumstances and their events to determine their happiness.

It is not the event that will make you happy. It is not losing a game. It is not going to the beach. It is not going to Great Adventure. It is not getting a new job.

Happiness is not included in any of the events that happen in your life.
Happiness is only determined by YOUR ATTITUDE!

"Does your day determine your attitude? Or does your attitude determine your day."

Quote of the month: "Give up the me to acquire the we."

The 5 Words that Paralyze Performance

WWOPT:
What Will Other People Think.

If you want to be cool, care about what others think.
If you want to be embarrassed, care about what others think.
If you want to be controlled by peer pressure, care about what others think.
If you don't dance or sing in front of others it may be because you care about what others think.

How many times a day does WWOPT run through your mind? At the store? At work? At school? Does everything you do fit in with what other people think?

Are you being who you are? Or are you being who everyone else expects you to be.

Someone once said, "I don't like you." The person answered, "Your opinion of me is none of my business."

"Be who you are. No one else is qualified."

Quote of the month: "Give up the me to acquire the we."

What Are You Infecting Your Brain With?

What you constantly see,
What you constantly hear,
You will eventually do.

Do You Play the Blame Game?

Do you see behavior? Or, do you see potential? Do you look to find fault in other people's behavior? If your answer is, "No," then why point it out?

Ever notice what you look for, you will find. "Energy flows where attention goes." Stop looking for what you don't want to see. How many times a day do you uncover someones weakness? Some people uncover it in their daily driving commute.

Why do we judge others based on their behavior and then judge ourselves based on who we can become?
To be continued...
Find out tomorrow how what we see in others is vital to our self-confidence.

"If we don't want others to point out our mistakes, then why do we constantly point out theirs?"

Quote of the month: "Give up the me to acquire the we."
