Self Pity, Is it controlling you?

A special Belated Happy Birthday to the The Kind and Considerate Lenny Michelli

Are you having a pity party? Most of the time when we have a pity party, it is because,
Things aren't' going the way WE want it to! Do we try to drag others into our own self pity and get them to feel sorry for us? When you confide in someone about something that is bothering you,

What would you like them to do?:
a. Listen and Empathize
b. Listen and give advice
c. Have a pity party with you.
Picking "a" may lead you to "c". Some go right to "c" and say things like, "I can't believe they would do something like that. How could they."

When a friend just listens and empathizes, they must be careful because there is a fine line between empathy and pity. Yes at first we should all empathize with someone. But at some point the person wallowing in self pity needs to understand that they are responsible for their feelings. Only once they stop trying to control the situation and let things happen as they may, then they will be able to accept the way things are.

"Trying to control things that are out of your control, will further control our unhappiness."

Quote of the month: "A winner is a dreamer who just won't quit."
