Maybe the best gifts are for free

A special Happy Birthday to a student-athlete with infinite potential, Kerrin Haganey.
Have we spent crazy hours and too much time on trying to find that perfect gift to make someone happy? How long will it take before that child or person's happiness wears off? The most creative and heartfelt gifts, are the one's that last forever. Bianca has truly given her Mom a gift that keeps on giving. This 3rd grade girl wrote the following poem to her Mom:
"The Best Gifts Are For Free"

I bought a Christmas present, to give it to my mom,
I saved up all my money and somehow it is gone.

I don't know how I lost it, it makes me oh so mad,
If I never find it, I will be very sad.

The day is soon to come when Christmas eve arrives,
But all I have to give her are the tears from in my eyes.

So I got glue and scissors and paper from the shelf,
And made a pretty card with Jesus and an elf.

Now on Christmas morning, she'll have something from me,
I made this gift with love. The best things are for free.
~Bianca

Quote of the month: "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give."

There is no way a third-grade student wrote that poem.

You should strive to be HONEST.

Lol. Totally understand why you would see it that way. That's what is so amazing about it. But I know this 3rd grade girl personally and she is one of a kind. This poem is a huge example of who she really is. If you check back in with my blog, in a week or so I will be posting an article that was written about her leadership skills. She inpsires those around her.

Children see simplicity - adults see negativity, monetary worth and race, color, creed, kind, disablity etc., Charity begins at home, maybe this child comes from a home filled with life. If her parents the type of people they are, this 3rd grader would not be who she is. I wish we all could remain as children the world would be a much nicer place. Thank god for her parents.

Thank God for Darren for being astute enough to recognize a stunning miracle when others may be blinded by the mundane and fail to see what deserves to be celebrated and passed on to others. Always an inspiration!

Why would you think this man is not striving to be HONEST? Because you don't know the person he speaks of that means he's being dishonest? C'mon now, you're bloodywell reading his blog, why read it if you think he's dishonest?...Darren, its because of your words, your wisdom, your inspiration that I am able to cope with some very difficult things in my life, both personally and professionally. I've had the pleasure of meeting you once and it was a breath of fresh air. Thank you Darren!

Wow! You all are to kind. Also understand when people take time to criticize you, it is because they care about what you are doing or saying. We only acknowledge things we care about: otherwise, why would they matter to us. Cathy you are way too kind. By the way that is a great quote, about how children see simplicity and adults see negativity. We always tell people to grow up. I think we need to grow to become a child again. They seem to get it, when adults seem to distort it.

I have been blessed with experiencing that simplicity sometimes can be bliss. What a lovely poem from that girl. Thanks for sharing!

I am the Godmother of this young poet and can 'honestly' say that I received a phone call from my sister in tears reading this to me. I too, was shocked that my neice wrote this but she never ceases to amaze me. Some of the things that come out of her mouth make my head spin. She is truly unique and she is lucky to have Darren as a coach. He is a wonderful coach for these young girls. I wish him all the best life has to offer.
