When you give advice do you ever say, "If I was you this is what I would do." That isn't giving advice. Giving advice is helping to assess the situation and allowing the other person to make their own decision without telling them what to do. Advice is meant to be given not taken.
Allow others to make their decisions with an understanding that you will be there for them no matter what decision they make.
