Fixed Mindset- the belief that intelligence and talents have been fixed from birth; a person believing that they are who they are and cannot improve; uses excuses to avoid failure.
"You are so smart." That picture looks great, you paint like Picasso. You are a great player." These are statements used to describe a child's abilities. So we have now set the standard for them that they must live up to. The studies that were done on fixed mindsets showed that most of these children avoided difficult situations because it will reveal who they really are and they won't be able to live up to the status of how others perceive them. Their thinking is, "If I fail others will see me for who I really am." Children learn from adult's overreactions to their accomplishments to the point where they constantly need to seek approval from others.
